Introduction

NCVER publishes and disseminates research and data on the aspirations, participation, outcomes, and experience of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples in vocational education and training (VET).

This feature provides links to important research, statistics and information produced by the NCVER as well as other sources on how the 鶹ýsector can make a difference to the educational and working lives of First Nations people and the learning models and pathways that lead to positive outcomes.

From 鶹ýto sustainable employment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

Using data from the Multi-Agency Data Integration Project (MADIP), this research examines what training and personal characteristics are associated with sustainable employment outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The analysis shows that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who had commenced a 鶹ýprogram had an increased likelihood of achieving sustainable employment when compared with those who had not commenced VET. Outcomes were similar irrespective of whether the student had completed or not completed a 鶹ýprogram. Several characteristics were shown to influence the likelihood of sustainable employment, including socioeconomic status, apprenticeship/traineeship status, provider type and qualification level.


鶹ýdelivery in regional, rural and remote Australia: barriers and facilitators

This research investigated how the training sector could better meet the needs of regional, rural and remote Australia. It explored how various stakeholders in the 鶹ýsystem understand local skills needs, and the barriers faced by RTOs when delivering training in such locations. Understanding local skills needs relies heavily on local consultation as most national/state data sources become less reliable at the local level. RTOs face many barriers when delivering is regional, rural and remote locations, but training might be better enabled with consideration of diversity of place, funding arrangements, co-ordination of training demand and the facilitation of partnerships.
