Main themes
This course presents a history of the Middle Ages around a large Mediterranean basin, from the 5th to the 15th centuries (Christian era). It begins with a broad overview of the main features of the Middle Ages, then moves on to study two more specific topics (e.g. fortified residences, animals, travel in the Middle Ages, etc.). The aim is to familiarize students with the diversity of sources and ways of thinking about medieval societies, as examined by recent historiography.
